Essa turns down alarm system
By Richard Blanchard

Essa council has decided not to move ahead with a voluntary security alarm system.

Council decided not to move ahead at its last week with a plan to have the township publicize a program to improve home security measures on a voluntary measure.

Township mayor Dave Guergis asked council to not proceed with the program.

He had asked in November that council make the installation of alarm systems mandatory in all new houses in the township.

Township staff researched his request and found that the Ontario Building Code does not require mandatory security alarms.

None of the municipalities surrounding Essa require the installation of alarm systems in new houses.
