Hurray, January is almost over. I don't know about you but I've had enough of winter and can't wait for spring. Guess you can tell that I'm not a winter sport enthusiast. I sure hope Wiarton Willy brings us good news this weekend.

The Thornton Area Action Committee's Valentine Dance will be here before you know it. Do you have your tickets? They cost just $12.50 per person and include dancing to the music from DJ Keep Them Dancing, a lunch served at 11 p.m. and door and spot dance prizes.

It will be a fun evening for everyone. Call Terry at 458-9054 for tickets or information.

The Fighting Temptation Youth Group from the Ivy Presbyterian Church will meet tomorrow evening, Jan. 31, starting at 6:45 p.m. All children in grades 4 to 8 are invited to join in with the activities in the shed. Call 424-2987 for more information or directions.

Also, tomorrow evening there is a presentation at the Angus Recreation Centre gymnasium for parents and caregivers about cyberbullying.

Christ Church-St. Judes in Ivy will be hosting its annual pancake supper on Tuesday February 5. It will be held at the Ivy Orange Hall from 5 to 7 p.m. Adults are $5, children ages six to 12 are $2.50 and children five and under are free.

It's a new year, so it's time to renew dog tags. One year tags are available at both library branches for just $20 each. Bring proof of your dog's rabies vaccination and cash or check. Two year tags are available at the Township of Essa offices only. Call 424- 9770 for more information.

The Community Access Program (CAP) has returned to the library. Need help learning to use your computer or surf the net? This is the place to go for free one-on-one training. Call the library at 458-2549 for more information or to sign up for a lesson.

If you have any news, announcements, or coming events, you can e-mail me at thorntonnews@rogers.com, call 458-0869 or drop it off at 25 Robert Street. Bye for now.
