High water warning issued

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority has issued a high water safety bulletin for the area.

The region was expected to receive rain over the last day. The rainfall, coupled with unseasonably warm temperatures, is expected to result in snowmelt and water runoff. That snowmelt is expected to lead to higher than average waterflow in local ponds, streams and rivers.

While no flooding is expected, the high flow can create dangerous conditions around local watersheds, especially near bridges and culverts. All ice covered creeks and ponds should also be considered dangerous. Children should be warned to stay away from all watercourses and ponds.

The warning will be in effect until Thursday.
