Residents asked to adopt a fire hydrant
By Richard Blanchard

Essa township's fire chief Paul Macdonald is asking residents in urban areas to "adopt" their fire hydrant and clear snow from it during upcoming winter storms.

Macdonald said that the recent large snowfalls have delayed township staff from clearing hydrants in residential areas.

"We have over 300 hydrants in the township and, with the large snowfalls, township staff has been busy trying to keep the roads and sidewalks clear," he said.

The fire chief said that clearing the hydrant on the property would save valuable time for township firefighters in the event of a fire.
