Town may give grant for doctor recruitment
By Chris Simon
Innisfil council.

A town committee approved a $2,000 grant for the area's Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, during a meeting last week. While the recommendation must still be passed by council, the grant would help the physician committee participate in recruitment fairs and special events for doctors currently living in the area.

Last year, physician committee members held Physician Appreciation and Rural Health days, offered hospitality welcome gifts to visiting practitioners, and attended recruitment fairs in Ottawa, Toronto, Hamilton and Montreal, said chair Remi Welch.

"Resources were used to ensure participation in the major recruitment fairs held throughout Southern Ontario and Quebec," said Welch in a letter to council. "Council's continuing support ensures success in our mandate to actively recruit new health care professionals to our region."

Last year, the physician committee also created a promotional DVD, which highlighted health care and the benefits of setting up a family practice in the region.

"The past leadership, support and financial contributions have enabled this committee to successfully recruit a number of highly skilled people," said Welch.
