Record check price is going up in March

A Police Record Check is a valuable screening tool.

However, it is not a substitute for appropriate hiring or screening practices and overall corporate due diligence. It is up to the individual organization to consider the information provided by the police, or by the individual in question and to make appropriate decisions about whether the information should exclude a potential candidate from a particular position or participation in their program.

The decision to engage or hire staff or volunteer workers is not made by the South Simcoe Police Service.

The responsibility lies entirely with representatives of the organization itself. The service makes no representation or warranty with respect to suitability or reliability of the individual.

Effective March 1, a surcharge of $15 will be introduced and applies to all volunteer criminal records checks requested by the applicant.

The fee for employment criminal police record checks remains $40.

This change comes about as the result of an increase in the demand for criminal record checks.

This demand has increased significantly in the past five years. Since 2006, requests have increased by over 70 per cent. In response, the police service has now reallocated personnel to handle the workload to accommodate the increased demand and improve customer service.

The police service fee structure has not seen an increase since its inception in 1997. Even with the increase to $15 in volunteer checks, their service compares favourably with that of other municipal police services. A study of five surrounding police agency fees shows an average of $19 per check.
