Kindergarten registration underway

Essa council beginning budget deliberations

      Essa council will begin work on its 2008 budget at the beginning of next month. Council agreed to a schedule which will see budget meetings held on the afternoons of March 5 and 19. The meetings will run between 1 and 5 p.m. and are the regular dates for council meetings.

Essa hikes fire fees

      For the first time since 1994, Essa township has increased its annual standby fee charged to the Town of Innisfil. Council approved an increase at last week's council meeting from $14,000 per year to $15,400. Provisions were also made for the fee to increase by four per cent in 2009 and 2010.

Essa refuses to pay paintball owners $90,000

      Essa council has deferred making a court ordered payment of $90,000 to the owners of a paintball operation in the township. Council decided not to make the payment which was ordered late last month by a Barrie judge until it has further legal advice on the matter.
