Baxter school has global vision

The Baxter Central Public School community has raised $1,200 for World Vision to purchase livestock for a third world community.

The project began in November 2006 and ran until December 2007. The school held various events to raise funds. As well, students donated $1 each month to participate in a dress-up spirit day.

"Not only did the students have fun but they have raised a lot of money in one year for a very worthwhile charity," says Lisa Abernethy, vice principal of Baxter Central. "Working on projects like this helps keep students focused on the true intent of the Character Education program, shows the traits in action, and helps to support others that are less fortunate."

The Simcoe County District School Board's community-developed Commit to Character initiative nurtures the attributes of integrity, responsibility, cooperation, caring, respect, optimism, honesty, empathy, courage and inclusiveness.
