Let's get frosty
By Chris Simon

Teresa Brennan and her five-year-old daughter Kerry built a snowman outside of the Innisfil Public Library's Lakeshore branch, during the Frost Challenge recently. Four teams built snowmen on the library's front lawn. The winner received a gift certificate for Snow Valley. A challenge was also held in Churchill.
Kerry Brennan and her mother Teresa bonded by building an angel snowman on the front lawn of the Lakeshore library Saturday.

Along with three other teams, the mother/daughter duo were taking part in the Innisfil Public Library's Frosty Challenge, where participants were asked to build their own snowmen.

A contest also took place at the Churchill branch.

"It just sounded like fun," said Teresa, before packing down a pile of fluffy white snow. "We're going to keep packing (the snow) down. It's not about winning."

Teresa's son Jaxon, who was building a devil snowman several metres away, interrupted.

"It's about the (free) hot chocolate," he said, laughing.

Each of the snowmen was decorated with various props, ranging angel wings and hats to pointed rocks used as jagged teeth.

Teams had one hour to complete their design, before each snowman was judged by members of the public. The winners earned four passes for tubing at Snow Valley, said organizer Mandy Pethick .

"We just thought this would be a good, fun (event) for everyone to do in winter," she said. "It goes with the Family Day weekend. They have to build their own snowmen, bring their own decorations and be as creative as possible."

The snowmen help promote the library, and showcase some of the events taking place within the branch, said Pethick.

"We're always looking for fun events that we can run for families, and attract people to the library," she said. "To have something out front, we catch people who drive by. (They) see we have some fun things happening here."
