School in session on Saturdays

School buses will be picking up and dropping off students on Saturday mornings in Simcoe County. Drivers are reminded of the following Rules of the Road as issued by the Ministry of Transportation.

Whether on a city street, highway or county road, and regardless of the speed limit and the number of lanes, motorists travelling in both directions must stop when approaching a stopped school bus with its upper red lights flashing. A flashing stop arm will swing out while passengers are boarding or leaving the bus. The only exception is on highways separated by a median, where traffic coming from the opposite direction is not required to stop. Once all passengers have boarded, the Stop arm will fold away. Do not start moving until the red lights have stopped flashing and the bus begins to move.

School buses will be transporting 500 Grade 5 and 6 students to the Simcoe County District School Board's Saturday Morning Literacy Program. Funded through the Ministry of Education's Ontario Focused Intervention Partnership.

The program will run for three hours on Saturday mornings, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Feb. 9, 16 and 23, March 1 and 29, and April 5, 12, 19 and 26. School buses will begin picking up students at 8 a.m. and the last drop-off time is 1 p.m.
