Spring Fling and March Break coming

Essa Parks and Recreation will be holding their Spring Fling registration event for recreational programs, area sports teams and organizations on Saturday March 1 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Thornton Arena. Drop in to see what activities are available in our area.

Essa Parks and Recreation will also be holding a babysitting course on Saturday March 15 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. for just $40 per child. Also, March Break Day Camp is being held again this year at both arenas. The cost is $20 per day per child, or $25 per day when a bus trip is scheduled. Some of the fun activities planned are skating, bowling, dance craze, and a visit to Bulldog Interactive Fitness. Stop by the Spring Fling registration, the township offices or call 424-9770 to sign your children up. The day camp will run Monday to Friday, March 10 to 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Ivy Minor Baseball will be holding their registration on Saturday March 1 during the Essa Spring Fling at the Thornton Arena. You can sign your children up for T Ball, Junior and Senior Rookie, Tyke, Peewee, Bantam and Midget teams. For more information, call Charlene at 739-9226.

The Thornton Ball Hockey League will also be holding their registration at the Essa Spring Fling this weekend. The cost is $100 per person and there will be mens, ladies and kids divisions. They will play at the outdoor covered arena at the Thornton Arena and the spring/summer season starts April 14. Call Cory at 458- 0203 for more information.

The Thornton Skating Club will be presenting A Night at the Museum on ice. Their skating carnival will be held Saturday April 5 with 1:30 and 7 p.m. shows. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. For more information or tickets, call Charlene at 739-9926.

Ontario Early Years will be presenting a positive discipline workshop at the library on Monday April 14 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The workshop deals with common parenting concerns such as when children are very active; when children get angry; children that whine or siblings that fight. The workshop focuses on actions that parents might use that aggravate the problems and gives techniques that could increase positive behaviour from your children. Visit the library for more information or to register.

March Break Fun will be held at the library. On Monday March 10 from 10 to 11 a.m., join staff for Family Storytime featuring stories, games and crafts. Then on Wednesday March 12 from 2 until 4 p.m., join in with computer and board game fun. March Break Fun is open to all ages and no registration is required. Just drop in and join the fun.
