FRIDAY MARCH 7 The first Friday in March marks the World Day of Prayer, where Christians of all denominations in more than 2,000 communities across Canada and 170 other countries pray and take action in solidarity with the people of that country. Stroud Presbyterian Church will host a service at 2:00 p.m. This year's service has been written by the women of Guyana. For more details, contact Audrey at 436-7939. Monthly euchre will take place at the Women's Institute Hall in Newton Robinson. The cost is $3 and includes lunch. Games begin at 7:30 p.m. SATURDAY MARCH 8 The Innisfil Lionesses are hosting a fundraiser for 16- year-old Krysta Rossit, who suffers from a congenital condition called C-ACC. As a result of the condition, the left and right sides of Rossit's brain are not attached, and she requires a service dog. The event will be called 4 Paws 4 Krysta Euchre, and will take place at the Innisfil Lions Hall, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, and will include a buffet and prizes. Association welcomes guest speaker Jamie Hunter, heritage consultant, who will speak on Archaeology and the Preservation of Simcoe County's Past. The meeting will take place in Barrie's City Hall Rotunda, beginning at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. For more information, or a ride, call 737-4408. Barrie Thornton Old Time Fiddlers Night at the Lions Hall on Barrie Street in Thornton. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m. sharp. SATURDAY MARCH 15 The Innisfil Historical Society meets at 2 p.m. at Knock School Heritage Site, 7756 10 Sideroad at 9th Line in Innisfil. This will be Lefroy Day, with some history of the village, then Q and A time with Luella Brooks, Don Ferrier and anyone else with information about Lefroy. All are welcome to attend. Join the Painswick Horticultural Society as they kick off their 2008 season with entertaining speaker Carol Dunk on the topic Water Wise Gardening, beginning at 7:30 p.m. See you at St. Paul's church hall to get a head start on gardening tips. WEDNESDAY MARCH 26 A cancer society tea will be held at The Wheel in Sandy Cove Acres from 2 to 4 p.m. The Glee Club will entertain, and there will be a video on cures for cancer presented. Tea, coffee and sweet treats will be available. Admission is $4, with proceeds being donated to cancer research. SATURDAY MARCH 29 The Royal Canadian Legion's ladies auxiliary are hosting their annual Chili Cook-Off from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Bring a pot of chili and let the public decide who is the best, or come get a bowl, bun, water and ballot for $5. SATURDAY APRIL 5 The Thornton Skating Club presents A Night at the Museum on-ice skating carnival, with shows at 1:30 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per child or senior.
