Be a face in the fight against cancer The Innisfil Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society needs volunteers. Their involvement enables the Canadian Cancer Society to fund cancer research, provide information, services and to support people living with cancer. Call: 436- 1060 or 726-8032. The Canadian Mental Health Association of Barrie-Simcoe supports the development and continuance of self-help groups as a viable community resource for individuals experiencing difficulties. Self-Help groups can provide; support and understanding through difficult times; an opportunity to meet with others who have experienced similar difficulties; information and education; a safe and comfortable environment; suggestions regarding coping strategies that help to get through difficult times. Donations are needed for Music Fun Night at the Gilford United Church. St Paul's Anglican Church, located on the corner of Mapleview and Yonge Street, has two new youth and young adult programs. From 6:30 - 8:00 pm will be informal musical jamming sessions for anyone with a voice or instrument. St. Paul's Anglican Church at Yonge Street and Mapleview Drive East hosts a playgroup for parents/grandparents and children from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Stinging Pearls from 1 to 3 p.m. contemporary Bible study, Aprons and Briefcases, an opportunity for women juggling many tasks to nurture their spirit on the first and fourth Tuesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. For more information call 722-7755.

The Beta Classes will be held at the Innisfil Community Church starting January 9th at 1pm. Beta is a life changing program and the twelve week course will enable you to live free from fear, stress aniexty and the pain of past hurts and traumas. The Grange Hall in Lefroy hosts euchre beginning at 12 p.m. Every third Tuesday includes a pot luck lunch. The cost is $2, and there is a 50/50 draw as well. Both regular and bid euchre are played. Thornton Lions Good Friday Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Lions Hall on Barrie Street in Thornton. All you can eat pancakes will be served with sausage and coffee, tea or juice from 7 to 11 a.m. Proceeds will go to the Simcoe Muskoka Cancer Centre.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 26 A cancer society tea will be held at The Wheel in Sandy Cove Acres from 2 to 4 p.m. The Glee Club will entertain, and there will be a video on cures for cancer presented. Tea, coffee and sweet treats will be available. Admission is $4, with proceeds being donated to cancer research. THURSDAY MARCH 27 The Simcoe County Quilters' Guild will meet at 1 p.m. at the ANAF Hall on George Street in Barrie. Suffering from cabin fever? Join them at their March meeting for the annual Merchant Mall. Merchants from Simcoe County and beyond will have quilting fabric, notions, and services available. SATURDAY MARCH 29 The Royal Canadian Legion's ladies auxiliary are hosting their annual Chili Cook-Off from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Bring a pot of chili and let the public decide who is the best, or come get a bowl, bun, water and ballot for $5. Anyone interested in entering a pot can call Maggie Barton at 456-7293 or Betty Donald at 436-1144. The legion is located at 1017 Robinson Street in Lefroy- Belle Ewart.

A coffee house presented by the Thornton Lions to support Adam Hewson's Humanitarian Mission to Peru. The event starts at 7:30 p.m., and will feature over two hours of local entertainment along with coffee, tea and sweets. Tickets are $10 each. They are available from all Thornton Lions.
