Safe roads project supported by MADD As a participant in a project called Safe Roads …Your Call, I am happy to say that a great partnership is being formed with the County of Simcoe, Ride 24/7, MADD Simcoe/Barrie Chapter and the police services in Simcoe County, Barrie and Orillia, to ensure the program is adopted in this region. This is a program launched in York Region, where motorists are encouraged to call 911 when they see a possible impaired driver on the road. A remarkable increase in calls of suspected impaired drivers was received, and impaired driving arrests have occurred since the launch. If the program is adopted in the county, it will be in place from Steeles Avenue in Toronto to Muskoka. The road signs for the program are designed to promote public awareness of the Safe Roads ... Your Call program, with a martini glass with keys and red circle symbolizing impaired driving, a phone receiver suggesting a call be made, and the universal 911 logo, along with the sponsorship partners. Watch for the program and help make our community a better place to live.
