DVDs seized from flea market booth Acting upon information received from the public, members of the Criminal Investigations Bureau of the South Simcoe Police Service attended a booth at a flea market in Innisfil Sunday. Police seized about 4,000 allegedly pirated DVDs. The DVDs were being sold for sale prices of $6 each, or four for $20. Many of the DVDs seized included movies still showing in theatres. The electronic equipment used to promote the pirated DVDs was also seized. Police estimate the retail value of the seizure to be about $80,000. As a result of the seizure, the booth was shut down. Three Toronto men, aged 18, 20, and 39, have been charged with numerous offences under the Federal Copyright Act. |
