Dancing the day away
By Chris Simon

Several children participated in the Dance Madness program at the Innisfil Public Library's Lakeshore and Churchill branches last week. The program was part of the library's March Break activity schedule.
There was some dance madness at the Innisfil Public Library last week.

The library's Lakeshore and Churchill branches each hosted a Dance Madness workshop last week, where children between six and 12 years old received an hour of dance lessons from professional instructor Sarah Webster.

"This is part of our March Break program," said children's library program coordinator Emily Brady. "This is one of the most important times of the year for us. The kids aren't in school and they're looking for something else to do at that time. It's a great time to promote all our library services and encourage them to use the library all year around."

The kids learned how to move at certain heights, proper warm-up techniques, and some dance steps.

"This is fun and high energy. They're learning different ways to move and express themselves," said Brady.

Brady says the lesson gives kids something fun and unique to do during the March Break.

"We're trying to find fun and exciting ways to encourage (children) through different programs," she said. "We want the library to be a place that's exciting and fun and it's not just homework stuff."

It also shows residents that the library has more to offer than just books and research material. Overall, it's an exciting and enjoyable place for the community to gather, she said.

"We do a lot of work with different art forms here. We have a drama club and art displays," said Brady. "We try to provide a wide variety of entertainment to keep (children) interested."
