Crime Stoppers is currently seeking volunteers If you are wondering what you can do to make a difference in your community, and make it safer and a better place to live, then Crime Stoppers may be the answer for you. This is an international organization that I am a member of, as part of the South Simcoe Committee and the Board of Directors. The local South Simcoe Committee is looking for more volunteers to be involved in awareness activities and community activities. Currently, this committee is holding a Crime Stoppers night at Georgian Downs, where you can participate by buying a dinner ticket or sponsoring a race. Please contact me for more information, or call Deanna Stewart at 905-775-0662 about joining the committee or having an evening out at Georgian Downs. Did you know that Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon following the Spring Equinox? This year, Easter takes place March 23. This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar. Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) but that is pretty rare. This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see. And only the most elderly of our population (aged 95 or older) have ever seen it this early. None of us have ever - or will ever - see it a day earlier! The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913, so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were around for that. The next time it will be a day earlier (March 22) will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now). The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. The Innisfil Historical Society is hosting its next monthly meeting April 19, where all are welcome, at the Knock School 7756 10 Sideroad at the 9th Line at 2 p.m. Peter Dickey of the Dickey Bee Honey company will be speaking with his wife on the running of a bee keeping business in Innisfil. They will bring along pieces of antique equipment and some samples of honey. Plan to attend. Are you interested in a running or walking club? One is starting up in Cookstown on April 5th at 10 a.m. at The Pub (formerly the Guzzling Goose) in the Foodland Plaza near Tim Hortons. There is a group of three runners - walkers in different stages of training, and they believe that they could cater to most runner and walkers. The Pub running group is designed as a free, social way to prepare for any fitness goal. Bring water and a good pair of running shoes. They expect to meet Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. For information, contact Johanne at johanne@silverins. on.ca or 905-936-4374. At the Cookstown branch of the Innisfil Public Library, story time and after school programs will run from March 25 to April 29. The programs include Acting Out (ages 8-12) on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., an after school club for aspiring actors. TumbleBooks are in the library. Children's books are now online at www.innisfil.library.on.ca. Check out TumbleBooks for stories, games and puzzles. Find the TumbleBooks link on our main webpage and also under the Kids Zone heading. Favourite authors such as Robert Munsch, Hazel Hutchins and Eve Bunting are just a click away! Registration for story times and after school programs begin the week of March 18th. Register early to avoid disappointment. Upcoming movie at the Cookstown branch: The Water Horse, Saturday April 5th at 1 p.m. $2 per ticket, $1 per snack/refreshment. South Simcoe Theatre will present Man of La Mancha April 24 to May 11. Join us on this musical quest for the impossible dream as we bring Don Quixote, his lady Dulcinea and his manservant Sancho Panza to the stage for 12 unforgettably glorious performances.
