Two killed in County Road 27 collision Two people have died following a two vehicle collision on County Road 27 in Bradford last week. The collision, which occurred north of Highway 9, took place around noon March 12. Police report that a Kia Rio travelling north on 27 crossed into oncoming traffic and was struck by a southbound Pontiac 6000. The force of the impact caused the Kia to roll onto its roof. The driver of the Kia, 59-year-old Toronto resident Domenico Rubino, was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor. The Pontiac driver, 26-year-old Minden resident Teresa Kasepchuk, was airlifted to Sunnybrooke Health Sciences Centre in Toronto but later succumbed to her injuries. Two Pontiac passengers were transported to a Newmarket hospital, and treated for non-life threatening injuries. South Simcoe Police have been able to confirm that one of the passengers in the Pontiac was pregnant at the time of the collision, but it does not appear the unborn child sustained any injuries. The road was closed for several hours as investigators pieced together the collision scene. Northbound traffic was detoured to Leonard Road, while drivers travelling south were asked to take County Road 88 to the 5th Sideroad or Highway 400. Both vehicles were also seized by police and will be thoroughly examined over the next few days to determine if a mechanical defect may have contributed to the collision. Anyone with information on the collision can call the South Simcoe traffic unit at 436-2141, ext. 2016. |
