Town calls for lead water test funding Lead testing for municipal drinking water should be paid for by the provincial government. At least that's what an Innisfil committee believes. That committee supported a recommendation from the Town of Amherstburg, which calls on the Ontario government to provide funding for provincially mandated lead testing. In 2007, the province began requiring several municipalities to perform additional lead testing on private residential taps, costing several municipalities thousands of dollars. In Innisfil, testing costs about $23,000 every six months, said councillor Lynn Dollin. While supporting the motion, Dollin advised against any further action. "I think we have some larger (issues) to go after, and I worry about going and complaining too often," she said. |
