More Ontario MPs needed
By Chris Simon

The federal government needs more representation from Ontario, according to a town committee.

That town committee has supported a recommendation from the Region of Niagara calling on the federal government to properly balance the number of Ontario representatives in the House of Commons. The recommendation is based on a formula proposed in Bill C- 22, which critics say unfairly balances the number of MPs in the House, by failing to base seats on population distribution.

"The regional municipality of Niagara recognizes that, despite the federal government's efforts to improve the representation of growing provinces in the House, the proposed formula is unfair to Ontario," said Niagara government clerk Pam Gilroy, in a statement.
