Get out and walk your block this April. Two out of five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. You can help change this statistic by joining the Canadian Cancer Society as a volunteer canvasser for our annual door to door campaign. Volunteers are needed in Alcona, Big Bay Point and Lefroy. The Canadian Mental Health Association of Barrie-Simcoe supports the development and continuance of self-help groups as a viable community resource for individuals experiencing difficulties. Self-Help groups can provide; support and understanding through difficult times; an opportunity to meet with others who have experienced similar difficulties; information and education; a safe and comfortable environment; suggestions regarding coping strategies that help to get through difficult times. FRIDAY APRIL 11 Nantyr Shores Secondary School will host grand scale illusionist Claude Haggerty. The doors open at 6 p.m., the show starts at 7. Admission is $15 or $12 with a nonperishable item for the food bank. Advanced tickets can be purchased through the Greater Innisfil Chamber of Commerce office, located on Yonge Street in Stroud, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. THURSDAY APRIL 10 Barrie Thornton Old Time Fiddlers Night at the Lions Hall on Barrie Street in Thornton. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m. sharp. Admission is $3 per person and children are free. All fiddlers, singers, callers, dancers and listeners are welcome. SATURDAY APRIL 12 The Lefroy United Church will have tulips blooming in the Grange Hall from 2 to 4 p.m. Enjoy some delicious sandwiches, goodies, tea and coffee.
