Volunteer at the library
By Barb Baguley

There is more at the library than books.

There are computers, drama clubs, reading groups and story times and friends. You will find friends at all the branches of the Innisfil Public Library. The Friends of the Library is a group of enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers that work to promote and fund programs at the library branches such as Books for Babies. The Books for Babies program is one of their most successful projects. The program provides a book to new Innisfil babies and gives parents resources to guide them in supporting their child's literacy development. The Friends next major project is to raise funds to assist with the building of the new Cookstown facility. Friends also award bursaries to secondary school students who live in Innisfil.

The Cookstown, Stroud and Lakeshore Friends jointly applied for and received a grant and funded an Authorin Residence program in 2004. The success of this program has prompted the Friends to apply for an Author-in-Residence grant for 2009.

The Lakeshore Friends are holding a fashion show and tea on Sunday May 4 at 2 p.m. at the Lakeshore Library, located at 967 Innisfil Beach Road. There will be many door prizes and lots of fun and friends. Tickets are $10.

To join any of the Friends at the Churchill, Stroud, Cookstown or Lakeshore branches, contact your local branch or go to www.innisfil. library.on.ca.
