Decorators Edge captures county title
Schomberg rolled into Lefroy Sunday March 16 for game one with a win on their mind. They did just that playing hard for three periods burying three goals on a groggy Lefroy team. Lefroy could not solve Schomberg's stellar goaltending and only managed a single marker in the second from Brandon Twine, with assists from Thomas Dunn and Hayden Adams-Peacock. Lefroy had other plans for Schomberg in game two Tuesday night, as they hit the ice with a renewed enthusiasm. Despite continued intensity from Schomberg, Lefroy pressed to the net as Grant Scott got the first goal assisted by Josh Holm and Zach Hellings. A scoreless second period kept the game on edge until midway through the third when Brandon Twine provided the go ahead marker from Thomas Dunn and Lucas Reimer. Grant Scott secured the win for Lefroy with a goal in the dying minutes of the game assisted by Brandon Twine and Zach Hellings. Tied at one a piece, Lefroy hit the pavement to Schomberg with renewed confidence. Schomberg went to work right away with a marker midway through the first and held the lead until the dying seconds of the second when Grant Scott buried a rocket unassisted. This was shortly followed by Josh Holm's goal assisted by Zach Hellings. Zach Hellings and Brandon Twine would put two more past Schomberg's goalie both assisted by Grant Scott. Game four in Schomberg opened with the excitement of a penalty shot for Lefroy as Brandon Twine found the net just under the crossbar. The Lefroy centreman would go on to score two more for a hat trick with Hayden Adams-Peacock assisting on one of them. Grant Scott, assisted by Julia Timbers, would then go to work and light the lamp twice to ensure the win. A great defensive game by blue liners Michael Norris, Julia Timbers, Brendan Heenan and Thomas Dunn who made sure net minder Luc Bujold was well protected. The series returned to Lefroy for game five Saturday afternoon. This was a goaltenders' game, as both were tested early making for a nail biter of a match. Brandon Twine for Lefroy struck first with two goals in the first being assisted by Hayden Adams- Peacock, Lucas Reimer, Zach Hellings and Julia Timbers. Schomberg answered back with one late in the second , but with the quick reflexes of Lefroy net minder Luc Bujold that was all Schomberg could manage. Luc would then go on to assist Grant Scott's goal midway through the second to complete a 3-1 win over Schomberg. Game five proved to be the championship game and the summary of an overall fantastic season, as Lefroy captured the Simcoe Region Cup. Many thanks to the coaches Jeff Hellings, Don Timbers, Lawrence Hellings, Steve Twine and Sean Peacock, parents, fans and the executive for an incredible season. |
