Mika subdivision's traffic problems There is a new proposal to develop the southeast corner of Lockhart Road and the 25th Sideroad. This development extends towards the lake to include the area south of Circle Crescent, east to Moosenlanka and south to the Rirob McKee subdivision. The current proposal includes 334 single detached homes on 12.2 to 15.2 metre lots, 161 townhouses, commercial buildings (including 38 units of commercial, apartments and a gas station), a retirement campus of 200 units, two community centres plus future development space. I am opposed to this development for several reasons. The commercial development includes apartments, commercial stores and a gas station which is unwarranted and too close to existing homes. Approximately 1,100 more cars, not including the traffic generated from the commercial and the retirement campus, will require upgrades to roads, street lights, turn lanes, etc., which will be sponsored with taxes from existing home owners. Past work on this land resulted in degraded water levels and quality for existing residents. The developer and the town do not have any plans to bring water to the existing homes to eliminate similar effects that this construction may cause. These plans will have an adverse affect on the existing wildlife, the lake, and the current water supply in the neighbourhood. The smaller lot size of houses and the inclusion of townhouses are not comparable to the existing homes.
I am opposed to this subdivision. If you also oppose this plan, please add your name to a petition to help ensure the town and the developer are aware of our views. Petitions are available at a number of commercial establishments in the area including Gran Prix Cycle (Yonge Street, south of Innisfil Beach Road), CW Coops (Innisfil Beach Road at the 25th), the Petro Canada station (the 25th at William), Sandy Cove Variety (Lockhart), Maple Mart (the 25th and Mapleview Drive), The Log Cabin (Mapleview and Beach Avenue) and Davidson's Country Dining (Big Bay Point Road). |
