Museum becomes accessible Accessibility will soon be celebrated at the Simcoe County Museum. The museum, which was recently renovated to accommodate people with disabilities, will host an Accessibility Day May 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The celebration will include free transportation, admission and food. Barrie Transit will provide a free shuttle bus to loop through Innisfil. The route will start along Highway 11, with stops at the Stroud Arena, the New Town Hall, Sobeys, the Fork and Plate restaurant and Sandy Cove Acres, said Innisfil Accessibility Advisory Committee chair Margaretta Papp-Belayneh. "The museum was renovated to accommodate persons with disabilities," she said. "Fifty-four per cent of persons with disabilities do not leave their homes, (so) we are encouraging seniors and persons with disabilities to get out to the museum." The event will include product displays, museum tours, education and information sessions and a barbecue lunch. It is sponsored by the Barrie, Innisfil and Simcoe County accessibility advisory committees, and the county's accessibility network and association for the physically disabled. Participants are asked to pre-register for the event by the end of today. For more information, call Rick at 431-7077. |
