Gibson Centre is going green for Earth Day The Gibson Centre was proud to participate as an official supporter in Earth Hour, the global initiative that asked cities and businesses to turn off non-essential lighting for one hour on Saturday March 29. This was part of a larger initiative at The Gibson Centre to go green in the coming year. Following a recent polar artist exhibit that featured environmental advocate Linda Mackey, the centre has become very interested in creating awareness about global warming not only within its building, but within the community as well. This coming Earth Day, April 22, Gibson will be furthering this initiative by having a green audit, to access its current emissions status and create target goals to decrease emissions and increase recycling. There will be a number exciting seminars, performances, workshops, and events that the community can participate in on April 22. "Earth Hour is just the start", says Gibson executive director Andrea Roylance. "We want to challenge the corporate community to join us in going green. If we can turn off our lights for one hour on a night that we are hosting a full scale tribute show then perhaps others can do their part." The Centre wants to encourage everyone to consider making small changes in their daily energy consumption. Participating in Earth Hour shows that, together, our small actions can make a difference to global warming. "The key is not to let it stop there, but to look towards long term solutions that will effectively reduce millions of tons of greenhouse gas each year." On March 29, Gibson featured a Tribute to Billy Joel and Elton John at 9 p.m. All non-essential lighting was turned off at 8 p.m., but the centre and their café bar was still open and available to serve those who attended that evening's show.
