Peoples Credit Union offers leadership camp

Co-operative Young Leaders is a quality program intended to develop our future leaders.

It provides opportunities for young people to learn about themselves and the cooperative way of getting things done, all while having fun.

Through the innovative curriculum, participants are encouraged to strengthen their self-confidence, solve problems, define personal goals, and to understand about the social value of the co-operative and credit union sector.

Innisfil's Peoples Credit Union is pleased to announce that they are again sponsoring Russell Kennedy and Josh Stringer to attend Intermediate CYL Camp, and Michelle Elo, Kaitlyn Veitch and Maggi Robertson to attend Senior CYL Camp this summer.

The eight-day summer curriculum includes guest speakers and resource people to enhance the program. All exercises and activities are participatory in nature and emphasize teamwork and group development. Sessions are collaborative and participants are encouraged to share in the day-today leadership and management of the program.

Peoples Credit Union is accepting sponsorship applications to the CYL camp program this summer. This sponsorship enhances the Credit Union's motto of People Helping People. Two youth will be selected to attend the CYL summer program.

Applicants must be residents of Simcoe and Dufferin Counties and be 14 to 15 years old. Each applicant will be required to complete a CYL application, and write a 250-word letter about their community involvement, leadership and cooperative experiences.

Selections will be based on demonstrated leadership skills and community involvement. Preference will be given to Peoples Credit Union members or member recommended applicants. The sponsorship committee will require an interview with all finalists. Sponsorship recipients will be required to supply a $150 participant fee and their own transportation to and from the summer camp in Richmond Hill. Peoples Credit Union will pay the $650 camp fee.

Application forms are available on-line at www.ontario.coop/cyl, www.peoplescu.ca, or in the Barrie, Alcona, Stroud or Shelburne branches of Peoples Credit Union. Application forms and letters are to be submitted to the CYL Sponsorship Committee at Peoples Credit Union, 8034 Yonge Street, Innisfil, Ontario, L9S 1L6, faxed to (705) 431-5610 or e-mailed to info@peoplescu. ca with CYL application in the subject line by May 15.
