Classy in Cookstown
By Chris Simon

Photo by Chris Simon Dana J's owner Donna Jonynas sorts some clothing at the retails store last week. The shop specializes in upscale women's clothing and home decor.
Dana J's is bringing a touch of upscale shopping to Cookstown.

Located on King Street South, the boutique has been open for about one month, and features plenty of high fashions, jewelry, and home decor.

Owner Donna Jonynas chose to feature high end fashion because of its superior quality and uniqueness. That, and Jonynas' husband jokingly coaxed her into buying the store.

"He said I spend so much on clothing, I may as well buy myself a store," she said jokingly. "I've always loved clothing, so I've always liked the designer clothing and European fashions. Dressing is an art; even when I was a kid I was designing clothing for all my Barbie dolls."

And Cookstown seems like the perfect fit for the store, said Jonynas.

"There are people who like the higher end clothing and don't mind spending the money on getting one piece of really nice clothing, as opposed to (lower end merchandise). There really is no comparison to the designs," she said. "We offer something a little more unique. We'll help find the outfit that will suit you the best. Every woman's got a different figure and style, so we try to cater to everybody. We're very up front with you, and we'll try to guide you in the right direction."

Dana J's will host a grand opening celebration, featuring wine and cheese, this Saturday. The celebration will give both local residents and shoppers a chance to see what the store has to offer, said Jonynas.

"It's been good so far," she said. "Saturday is a good day to serve wine and cheese ... all day."

The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday thru Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Sunday.
