Mason at GDHS meeting

The Gilford and District Horticultural Society will host speaker Marjorie Mason at the Churchill Community Centre May 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Mason is an enthusiastic gardener who enjoys sharing her ideas with others. She started gardening at a very early age on her parents' market garden farm near Peterborough. After a career as a public school teacher, she worked for 19 years at Pine Ridge Nurseries in Pickering, where she amassed a collection of over 500 different varieties of pelargoniums.

Mason has a passion for gardening in containers and was instrumental in promoting the concept of BC style moss baskets in Ontario. She lectures across Canada and the United States on a wide variety of horticultural topics and has written articles for Canadian Living, Harrowsmith, Plant and Garden and Canadian Gardening.

From 1985 to 1993, she hosted Let's Get Growing on CKQT Radio in Oshawa. The show now runs on CKDO 1350 AM. Her first book Amazing Annuals was published by Firefly in spring 1999.
