Talent show on to next stage
By Chris Simon

The field of Innisfil's most talented residents has been nearly cut in half, as the semi-finals for Innisfil's Got Talent approaches.

Last week, preliminary auditions for the Alcona Business Association's talent show were held at the Innisfil Community Church. Over 50 amateur performers took to the stage, showcasing skills like singing and dancing. That group has now been narrowed down to 28 acts, will compete during a semifinal show on Saturday May 24, said ABA member Patti Bentley.

"We had some great talent," she said. "It was fabulous. We had highland dancers, ages ranging from under 10 to 65 plus. We had to split one category because we had so many entries. We were really pleased with the turnout. The people that entered, the quality was fantastic."

Performers have been grouped into six age categories - 10 and under, 11 to 15, 16 to 25, 26 to 39, 40 to 64 and 65 and older. The top three winners from each semi-final bracket will perform on the main stage at Innisfil Summerfest next month.

Lenore Dempster, a member of the show's organizing committee, says the semi-final is open to the public. For $2 per person, residents can watch the acts in a fun, relaxed and enjoyable setting.

"We'd just like to invite residents to come out and enjoy the talent we have in town," she said. "Whatever money we raise will go towards the ABA and their beautification project. It'll be a nice little show; it is fun to watch."

The semi-finals will take place at the Innisfil Community Church, beginning at 2 p.m.

"They should all do Innisfil proud," said Bentley. "Good for them for coming forward."

The ABA is currently asking businesses to donate prizes for the competition. For more information, call Dempster at 436-1095.
