Town approves funding for new septic data system
By Chris Simon
Innisfil is spending more money on its septic data acquisition system.

Town council approved $7,235 in additional funding for the system during a meeting recently. Last year, council approved $60,000 for the installation of the system, which meters the amount and handling of septic waste from private septics throughout the town. However, inflation has bumped up the original price of the project.

The new system will help the town sustain a user pay septic treatment system, by recovering the costs of treatment from private owners. In January, the town raised its septic treatment rates from $32 to $45 per 1,000 grams. The increase will generate $25,078 in additional revenue for the town. However, the metering system is expected to earn another $42,462 in funding, based on an anticipated 20 per cent volume correction.

"Delay in the installation of the system will result in lost revenues due to the current absence of a metered septic discharge and inaccurate volume volume reporting," said water water services superintendent Wesley Cyr. "Installing a meter on the discharge pipe will generate revenue by accurately measuring the volume of septic discharged, and allow a more effective and user friendly billing process."
