Preparing the motorcycle for a summer drive

Warmer weather has brought an increase in motorcycle traffic on roads and there have already been two fatalities this spring where excessive speed was a factor.

It's still early in the season and road and weather conditions can change quickly.

It's important to ensure your motorcycle - and you - are ready for the new season.

The good weather is great for riding but it also leads to increased car and truck traffic and motorcycle riders need to be aware of other vehicles around them.

Basic maintenance procedures and pre-ride checks such as checking engine oil, tire pressure and leaks will ensure safe operation and reduce the frequency of breakdowns.

A spring refresher is highly recommended and practising simple exercises in a parking lot will help reacquaint riders with their motorcycle controls and handling techniques which will assist in preventing collisions.

Wearing proper motorcycle gear such as an approved and fitted helmet, eyewear, footwear, gloves and jacket will greatly assist in reducing injuries and preventing death.
