Teachers honour school board

The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board is recognizing the Simcoe County District School Board's payroll department with their Employer of the Year award.

This award is based on the department's diligence in maintaining clear and accurate employee records, promptness in responding to inquiries, and their overall relationship working with the OTPP board.

The SCDSB's payroll department includes Joanne Gemus, manager of payroll and benefits services, Shelley Dahmer, payroll coordinator, and clerks Linda Winchester, Rick Swiscoski and Roger Kennedy.

"Receiving this award and recognition is very satisfying considering all of the hard work our team puts into working with the OTPP," said Gemus. "It's so nice for all of our staff to be recognized and appreciated."

This is the second time the SCDSB department has been honoured by OTPP, receiving second place honours two years ago.

The SCDSB has 4,200 members who are part of the OTPP. Statistics from the OTPP indicate that 97 per cent of employees received immediate service in 2007, based on an average one-day turnaround for resolving priority issues.

"The SCDSB strives to be the best place to learn and work, and to receive an honour like this for one of our departments is exceptional," said Ruth Braganca, superintendent of human resource services and organizational development. "I am proud of the team's efforts and dedication to their work."
