Students dance for funding
Many of the nearly 540 Goodfellow students donned animated princess, Cars or animal costumes for the school's annual dance-athon, which took place over two afternoons recently. The two-day dance-athon, which had a Disney theme, aimed to raise money for school items like computers and sports equipment. "This is our annual dancea thon," said parent volunteer Laurie Goodman. "It's so much easier to get everybody involved, without people having to buy stuff. It's great for the school." The school council, together with teachers, organized and hosted the event. Those organizers hoped to raise $5,000 through the dance-a-thon, a total they exceeded last year, said Goodman. Students were asked to collect pledges from friends and family, and several local businesses donated prizes. The younger children were able to dance on Monday, with older students participating yesterday. Many limboed, while others simply jumped and pumped fists in the air during the event. Even teachers dressed up and danced alongside the students. The event gives students an opportunity to have fun while raising money for their school community, said Goodman. "All the money collected goes back into the school, to purchase computer and stuff like that," she said. |
