The Canadian Mental Health Association of Barrie-Simcoe supports the development and continuance of self-help groups as a viable community resource for individuals experiencing difficulties. Self-Help groups can provide; support and understanding through difficult times; an opportunity to meet with others who have experienced similar difficulties; information and education; a safe and comfortable environment; suggestions regarding coping strategies that help to get through difficult times. FRIDAY MAY 16 Thornton Area Action Committee will begin holding their two day garage sale, on the vacant lot on the west side of Barrie Street, south of William. There will be something for everyone. Proceeds will benefit community projects. SATURDAY MAY 17 The Thornton Lions Club will be holding a giant garage sale at the Lions Hall in Thornton. The hall is located in County Road 27. Anyone wishing to rent a table to display merchandise can call Bob at 424-3105. Table rental is $10. Vendors are wanted for the Gilford and District Horticultural Society's South Innisfil Arboretum Plant and Vendor Sale. Their annual giant sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will have lots of flowers for sale, nearlynew tables, bake tables, raffle, crafts, a barbecue and much more. The Alcona Business Association will host the semi-finals of their Innisfil Has Talent Contest. Nearly 30 acts will be on display. Finalists will move on to perform at Innisfil Summerfest June 14. The event will begin at 2 p.m. at the Innisfil Community Church. Admission is $2. St. Paul's Anglican Church, located at the Yonge Street and Mapleview Avenue intersection, will host a flea market and bake sale. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A plant and trunk sale will take place at Lefroy United Church from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lots of perennials and annuals will be for sale. There will also be a bake sale and barbecue. Funds raised will be used towards the ongoing outreach projects at the church and their new youth group. Donations can be dropped off at the church.
