Preparing for an emergency reduces stress As many people know following the spring flooding this year, being ready for an emergency can reduce stress and worry. On average, larger emergencies can leave people without access to electrical power, food or supports for as long as three days. That's why Public Safety Canada advises people to prepare an emergency kit that will keep them self sufficient, warm and safe for 72 hours. Get your family prepared during Emergency Preparedness Week, May 4 to 10 by making a plan for your family and preparing an emergency kit. By visiting www.getprepared.gc.ca, residents can prepare a plan online and find out how to purchase an emergency kit. For more information about emergency preparedness, visit the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit website at www.simcoemuskokahealth. org, or call Your Health Connection, 721-7520, or 1- 877-721-7520. |
