Angus library may be built near school
By Richard Blanchard

A new township library in Angus could be built in conjunction with the new high school planned for the community, says Essa mayor Dave Guergis.

Guergis told council last week that he had preliminary discussions with the local public school trustee Robert North to see if the library might be adjacent to the new school.

"He seemed favourable to the concept which he will bring up to the school board," said the mayor.

Council gave its approval to a broad review of the new facility's location, which will look at expanding the present library or constructing a new building at the township recreation complex, at a property along Mill Street, or on a piece of the Rippon Forest which is along County Road 90 and owned by Simcoe County.

Councillor Sandie Macdonald said that she would like council to put a timeline on completing the report.

"I think that we need a date when this report will be completed," she said.

Macdonald also told council that she was unaware of any petition in the community which was calling for the placement of the library at the township recreation centre.

"The only petition that I know of was to ask the province to provide funding for the new facility," she said.

Councillor Rick Newlove says that he hopes any decision on the new library would be determined by council.

"We are elected by the public to make decisions. The final decision on the library has to be made by council."
