Drumhead parade coming up
LEGION NEWS
by Ed Collins

Drumhead service and parade: This will be held at the Lefroy branch June 12th, with the parade starting at 1 p.m., running from Arnold Street along Ewart to the legion parking lot. There will be refreshments at the branch for everyone after the service. Everyone is invited to attend. Watch for fliers in local stores.

What is a Drumhead service? This is from a site in England.

"The ceremony dates back centuries when soldiers on the battlefield would parade on three sides of a hollow square. On the fourth side, drummers would arrange their drums in the shape of a pyramid and drape it with regimental colours to form a church alter."

Not only was it for religious services, it was also used for a Court Marshal on the battlefield.

The parade will include legion members from our district, which includes branches as far north as Huntsville, south to Woodbridge, west to Collingwood, and east to Sutton and Stouffville.

Branch elections: Branch 547, Lefroy will be holding their annual elections during the regular meeting May 20th, starting at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend, to ensure we have a good representation and are able to table a good selection of candidates. You don't have to run, just make sure your vote is counted, and your opinions are heard.

Thursday euchre: We hold bid and progressive euchre every afternoon, with everyone invited. Come on out and enjoy a nice afternoon of euchre.

The branch is open Friday and Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m., so why not get some of your friends together a join us for an afternoon of cards, pool or darts?

The Saturday meat draw is a very popular event, so come out and try your luck for some very choice pieces of meat.
