Rink fee increases may impact usage
      A proposed increase in municipal recreational fees will make skating and minor hockey more difficult for families to afford, according to Innisfil's deputy mayor. Fees for several town services — including recreational activities such as public skating and ice rental — could be on the rise.

New NVCA chair appointed
      Walter Benotto, councillor for the Town of Shelburne, was elected chair of the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority Board of Directors at the NVCA's 49th annual general meeting on Friday. Benotto has been an NVCA board member since 2001, and has served as vice chair since 2005.

Essa mileage rate reduced for staff, council
      Essa Township will cut the mileage rate that it pays its employees and council members, to better reflect the declining cost of gasoline. Councillors agreed, at their budget meeting recently, to cut the rate from 52 cents per kilometre to 42 cents.

Cookie campaign tastes success

Scientific research encouraged through new government fund
      WWF-Canada and the Ministry of Natural Resources announced a new fund designed to encourage scientific research on species at risk. The one-year pilot program will provide up to $400,000 to researchers working to understand and recover Ontario species that have been listed as 'at risk' by the Committee on the Status of Species at Risk in Ontario.
