Kindergarten registration opens
Public schools in Simcoe County are now registering children for Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes for the 2009-2010 school year.
This registration is open to all families in with children who are four years of age by Dec. 31.
Registering can be done by calling a local public school. Parents must then gather the necessary documentation, including proof of birthdate (original Canadian birth certificate, Certificate of Canadian Citizenship, Canadian Passport, Permanent Resident Card/Record of Landing, or Statement of Live Birth) and address. These must be submitted to the school before classes begin in September.
Parents who cannot register during regular school hours may call 734-6363, ext. 11750 to arrange a Saturday appointment. These appointments will be scheduled on Feb. 21, 28 and March 7, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., in the Barrie Learning Centre at the Bayfield Mall. Parents will be asked to bring all required documents.
Additional valid documentation is required to register visa/foreign students. Families of Kindergarten students new to Canada are invited to contact the Newcomer Welcome Centre at 725-8360, ext. 310.
A record of immunization is also requested to assist the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit in meeting its requirement under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, to collect and maintain records. For further immunization details, call 1- 877-721-7520.
