Saving on summer power
There are several ways to cut electricity costs through Innisfil Hydro this summer.
The company, which oversees the distribution of hydro to town homes and businesses, is introducing four programs aimed at saving electricity during the summer months, said mayor and Innisfil Hydro board member Brian Jackson.
"These programs are designed to help Ontarians and residents of the town use electricity wisely," he said, making the announcement on the main stage at Innisfil Summerfest Saturday afternoon. "We're announcing some energy saving programs for the home and business."
The Great Refrigerator Roundup will allow residents to dispose of the appliance, if it is 15 years of age or older, free of charge.
The refrigerator will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. The peaksaver program will allow the company to install a thermostat in eligible homes. Peaksaver briefly lowers the thermostat setting in homes, when an air conditioner is in use. The Electricity Retrofit Incentives Program can help ease the transition to energy efficient lighting, said Jackson.
"(Peaksaver) is a wonderful device; it does help you save on your energy bill," he said.
Innisfil Hydro will also participate in the Power Savings Blitz, a program for small businesses. Qualifying businesses can receive a free electrical use assessment and information on energy saving products. All programs are supported by the Ontario Power Authority, said Jackson.
"We're pleased to deliver these programs," he said.
