A rare moment in time can be witnessed July 8
If you have the Internet, you have probably received an e-mail about the unusual date and time event that is coming up. At five minutes and six seconds after 4 a.m. on July 8th, the time and date will be 04:05:06 07/08/09; this will never happen again in our lifetime. I'm happy to read about this, but don't think that I will get out of bed Monday morning to actually witness it. Vacation bible school will be held in Ivy again this year. It is a joint venture between the Ivy Presbyterian Church and Christ Church St. Judes. It will be held at Christ Church St. Judes, located at 7330 9th Line Essa, from July 13 to 17. For more information, call 424-1257. There may still be some spots left at the TD Summer Reading Club at the Essa Public Library. This year, the theme is Agent 009. Children ages 12 and under can join Agent 009 on a reading adventure. The younger kids, ages six and under, can sign-up to be special Agent 009 Juniors and join in the fun during two special storytime sessions, with the first one beginning July 14. Visit the library for more information. Readers over the age of 12 can join the Murder, Mystery and Mayhem Young Adult Book and Blog Club to determine the best summer mystery read. Bloggers are invited to read from a selection of mystery titles and vote online for their favourite one. Participants must register at the library to get free access to the mystery website, including a name and password. At the end of the summer, club members will be invited to a pizza party, where the best summer mystery read will be revealed. Essa Summer Blast Day Camp still has spaces available for campers. Held at both the Thornton and Angus arenas, the campers will enjoy a fun-filled week. Every week-long session has different theme and a trip to an Ontraio attraction, such as the Toronto Zoo, Rounds Ranch, the Wye March and more. The price is just $125 per week, with discounts for more than one child. Visit www.essatownship.on.ca or call 424-9770 for more information. The Thornton Fire Fighters Association is hosting a golf tournament on Wednesday July 29 at Tangle Creek. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10. The cost is $100 per golfer and includes 18 holes, a golf cart, steak dinner, live auction and hole-in-one prizes. The association is also seeking sponsors. For more information, or to become a sponsor, call Scott Fisher at 721-5287. Happy Canada Day everyone; don't forget to take a moment to celebrate this great country.
