Spotlight on senior services
The changing lifestyle of the over 50 crowd was on display Saturday. The Welcome Wagon's Fifty Plus Changing Lifestyles Showcase took place at Lakeside Retirement at Innisfil, and featured 11 displays from local businesses.
Welcome Wagon volunteer and Mary Kay sales representative Beth Burke talks to residents at the Fifty Plus Changing Lifestyles Showcase recently. Several local and Lakeside residents attended the event, which was targeted at people over 50 years old and new grandparents.
"Once you get to this age group, the things you need in your life tend to change," said special events coordinator Catherine Phillips. "We try to bring businesses into one place to appeal to that age group."
Vendors showcased a variety of products, from funeral services and cosmetics to eyeglasses and weight loss methods.
The event also helps showcase Lakeside, said representative Marjorie Malcolm.
"We were approached by the Welcome Wagon to set something up," she said. "This is a very good showing for the first year out. This is very beneficial, even our residents are picking up information."
The Welcome Wagon hosts similar shows in other communities throughout the region.
However, the event had never previously been held in Innisfil, said Phillips.
"There are a lot of people in that age group in this area," she said.
Over the next few months, Welcome Wagon will host bridal and baby shows at the Army, Navy and Air Force Club in Barrie.
The bridal event takes place Sept. 16, while the baby show will be held Nov. 4.
