Get out and walk your block this April. Two out of five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. You can help change this statistic by joining the Canadian Cancer Society as a volunteer canvasser for our annual door to door campaign. Volunteers are needed in Alcona, Big Bay Point and Lefroy. For more information, call Andrew at 436-3107. The Canadian Mental Health Association of Barrie-Simcoe supports the development and continuance of self-help groups as a viable community resource for individuals experiencing difficulties. Self-Help groups can provide; support and understanding through difficult times; an opportunity to meet with others who have experienced similar difficulties; information and education; a safe and comfortable environment; suggestions regarding coping strategies that help to get through difficult times. Good Food Simcoe is a nonprofit organization bringing the Good Food Box to Innisfil. The box consists of an assortment of fruits and vegetables, much of which is grown locally. The cost is $10 for a small box and $15 for a large box. Orders must be pre-paid in cash and picked-up on the delivery day. They also need volunteers on packing day. HomeLife/Kempenfelt- Kelly Realty's Innisfil Beach Road office is collecting pennies for the Alzheimer Society program Penny for your Thoughts, along with grocery tapes from Sobeys, Zehrs and Foodland. Drop them off at the office any day of the week. Donations will be submitted to the organization each month for the remainder of the year. MONDAYS Friends of the Innisfil Library, Stroud Branch, meetings are held the third Monday of every month at 7 p.m. The Stroke Recovery Association (Barrie and District) welcomes individuals with aphasia, as a result of a stroke or acquired brain injury, to attend a communication group. The group is led by a speech-language pathologist or communicative disorders assistant, at the office of The Stroke Recovery Association, which is located at 80 Bradford Street. All sessions are provided free of charge (with a small annual membership). Individuals will experience conversation in a supportive environment. For more information, please contact Paul Wideman at 737-9202. TUESDAYS Cookstown Computer Club drop-in program for elementary students, 4 to 5 p.m. at the library.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Tuesday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Thornton Library, located at 34 Robert Street. Park at the back and come in the side door. For more information, call Elaine at 458-0937 or Bonnie at 726-7799. The Grange Hall in Lefroy hosts euchre beginning at 12 p.m. Every third Tuesday includes a pot luck lunch. The cost is $2, and there is a 50/50 draw as well. Both regular and bid euchre are played. A charge of 25 cents goes towards prizes. The event is open to everyone. WEDNESDAYS Friends of the Innisfil Library, Lakeshore Branch, meet the third Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. New members are most welcome.

Euchre, bid euchre, Scrabble and cribbage is played at Alcona Seniors club every Wednesday at 11:30 to 3 p.m. at the ABC Hall on the 25th Sideroad below Innisfil Beach Rd. Refreshments and fun days. Bring a bag lunch.

Innisfil Leo Club meeting on the second and fourth Sunday of every month. Come meet new friends, help your community, get your community hours and have fun. THURSDAY JULY 16 The Prostate Cancer Support Group, Barrie chapter of Man to Man, will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Canadian Cancer Society Office on Cedar Pointe Drive in Barrie. The Healing Sun health food store is holding a free seminar on stress and the immune system, presented by naturopathic family doctor Dr. Michael Yarish, at the Innisfil Public Library's Lakeshore branch, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Limted spaces are available. The register, call the store at 431-7040. SATURDAY JULY 18 A huge garage sale will be held at Churchill United Church, located at 6306 Yonge Street. Free children's painting, a barbecue and sale will be available. No products are over $5. Toys, tools, electronics, garden, home and camping equipment will be for sale. The event runs rain or shine. Early birds are welcome to attend. WEDNESDAY JULY 29 Thornton Fire Fighters Association's golf tournament will take place at Tangle Creek. Admission is $100 per golfer and includes 18 holes, a cart, and a steak dinner. For more information, call Scott at 721-5287. SATURDAY AUGUST 1 An Italian dinner will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, located at 1017 Robinson Street in Lefroy. Spaghetti with meat sauce, caesar salad, garlic bread, dessert, wine, tea and coffee will be served. Cocktails will begin at 5:30 p.m., with dinner planned for 6. Limited seating is available. The Belle Aire Beach Association's annual wiener roast will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Hot dogs, hamburgers, and pop will be available for purchase. Organizers also hope to have corn for sale. Participants are asked to bring a lawn chair. All money raised will be used to pay for the upkeep of the beach. A rain date is scheduled for Aug. 2. SUNDAY AUGUST 9 A community corn roast and barbecue, sponsored by The Thornton Area Action Committee, will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. It will be held at the library and fire hall on Robert Street in Thornton. All-you-can-eat corn will be supplied by Chappel Farms, and hot dogs and hamburgers will be available or purchase. Everyone is welcome to attend. FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 4 Looking for an evening of original folk and jazz inspired music? Come out to St. James United Church in Stroud for a unique experience with singer and songstress Sue Smith, accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird from the Cowboy Junkies. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and can be obtained by calling Joanne at 436-5225 or Donna at 436-2578. SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 26 Sunnybrae Elementary School's reunion will take place from 10:30 to 4 p.m. Built and opened in 1959, Sunnybrae celebrates 50 years of educating Innisfil youth.
