Historical mural approved for Lefroy Arena
      Several parts of Innisfil's history will be on display in Lefroy. Town council has agreed to allow the Innisfil Historical Society to erect a 3.7 by 7.3 metre mural on the exterior wall of the Lefroy Arena. As part of the plan, the town will pay about $1,500 for the framing, lighting and mounting of the mural.

      Simcoe County youth are invited to apply for one of 50 spots in Photovoice, a project of THINK CLEAR! and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

      Many Sandycove Acres residents are affected by Royal Victoria Hospital each year. Some require medical attention, others choose to volunteer with the RVH auxiliary. Big Cedar project may be ditched without local support
      Debra Selig could up the creek without a paddle, if the town approves a significant expansion of water and sewer services in the Big Cedar area. A town committee has granted permission for the development firm Ainley and Associates to plan a detailed design for water and sewer service expansion into the Big Cedar area, during a meeting last week.

Arts and crafts on display at Simcoe County Museum
      Cheri Hempseed of Orillia and Colleen Darling of Barrie tied for first place in the Mixed Media Juried Competition held by the Simcoe County Arts Crafts Association last week. Hempseed's traditional hooked rug, titled The Sun, The Moon and The Stars, won the Judge's Choice and Viewer's Choice awards.

Councillors call for fair Trans Canada Trail funding
      Funding for local sections of the Trans Canada Trail unfairly favours Essa Township, according to Innisfil councillors. An Innisfil committee has agreed to support a grant opportunity for sections of the 15.6 kilometre Thornton-Cookstown leg of the Trans Canada Trail, to upgrade surfaces, retaining walls, entrance gates and signage.

Theatre lease may be extended
      South Simcoe Theatre could have a new lease on life. A town committee has agreed to extend the lease of the former Cookstown community hall property to the South Simcoe Theatre until June 2010. If approved by council, the extension will allow municipal staff to complete a structural analysis of the building by December.

Bradford gets gas cash
      The federal government is doubling the annual cash that Bradford West Gwillimbury receives as part of the Gas Tax Fund. It is also being delivered three months earlier than expected, said York-Simcoe MP Peter Van Loan. "This is another example of Bradford residents benefitting from Canada's Economic Action Plan," he said.

Planting a reverend's legacy
     Rev. Todd McDonald delivered his final preaching at Lefroy United Church June 28. As part of the service, church members planted five trees in the Church Street Park in Lefroy. Oak, willow, evergreen, maple and Mountain Ash trees were all planted, each with special significance.
