Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League Playoff Preview West Division Semifinals - Caledon Bandits vs. Innisfil Wolfpack

By Jon Yaneff Sports Reporter

The Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League (OJCLL) playoffs are set to begin Tuesday, July 14 at the Mayfield Recreation Complex for the Caledon Bandits (15-1), as they host the last-place Innisfil Wolfpack (1-14-1) at 8 p.m. for Game 1. The second game would then be this Friday (July 17) at the Innisfil-Stroud Recreation Complex at 8 p.m., while third game of the best-of-five series is Sunday (July 19) back at Mayfield, with the time to be determined. If necessary the fourth and fifth games would be July 21 and 22 at 8 p.m., at Stroud and Mayfield respectively.

When asked what the key to the playoffs will be, coach Sonny Sampson responded by saying, "good goaltending and good defence. Our offence will always score since we have enough people to score goals (led OJCLL with 164 goals). So the idea is to get our opponents' shot count down."

The Bandits led the league in goals, while Innisfil was last with 59. Caledon also had the fewest goals against in the West Division with 94 goals. The defending Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League Jim Meredith Cup champs, the Bandits, have Tim Sztorc, who finished second in the league with 65 points (35 goals, 30 assists).

On special teams Caledon scored the most goals at 35 on the power play, while Innisfil scored the least at just eight. Though the Wolfpack were first in the league at 14 goals against killing penalties, while Caledon were tied for seventh with 29 power-play goals against. Innisfil's leading scorer was Troy O'Donnell with 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists).

The Centre Wellington Warlords (6-9-1) and Shelburne Veterans (6-10) would be the other West Division semifinal series. In the East Division, the Peterborough Lakers (15-1) take on the Kingston Cavaliers (4-12), while the Clarington Shamrocks (9-7) take on the West Durham Patriots (6-10).
