The community event calender is provided as a free public service to non-profit organizations to announce upcoming events. Deadlines are no later than Monday for that week's issue to Submissions by mail, fax or e-mail and will not be received by telephone. ISSUES & INTERESTS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 4 Looking for an evening of original folk and jazz inspired music? Come out to St. James United Church in Stroud for a unique experience with singer and songstress Sue Smith, accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird from the Cowboy Junkies. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and can be obtained by calling Joanne at 436-5225 or Donna at 436-2578. Guelph songstress Sue Smith will be in concert with multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird of Cowboy Junkies, at St. James United Church in Stroud, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The evening will feature jazz inflected roots and soul. THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 10 The Cookstown and District Chamber of Commerce's 11th annual golf tournament will take place at Harbour View Golf Club. Registration and lunch will occur at 11:30 a.m., with teeoff planned for 12:30 p.m. Admission is $125 per player, and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch, dinner and prizes. Holes can also be sponsored for $150. Barrie Thornton Old Time Fiddlers Night will be held at Living Faith Presbyterian Church, located at 206 Murphy Road in Baxter. This is a temporary location, while renovations are being done to the Thornton Lions Hall. The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the music starts at 7. Admission is $3 per person and children are free. All fiddlers, singers, callers, dancers and listeners are welcome to attend. For more information, call Cec Denney at 458-9996. SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 12 Lefroy United Church's annual golf tournament will take place at Innisfil Creek Golf Club, beginning at 11 a.m. Tickets are $95 per player, and include golf, a cart, dinner and prizes. Holes can be sponsored for $100 each, and prizes are still needed. The Rotary Clubs of Innisfil and Thornton will host a car show at the Cookstown Outlet Mall, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All vehicles will be pre- 1980. Admission is a cash donation, or food items for Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army. The Gilford and District Horticultural Society's annual Fall Flower and Vegetable Show will take place at the Grange Hall on Church Street in Lefroy. The Business and Professional Women's Club of Barrie, a non-profit organization dedicated to the interests of women, will be hosting a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 123 Golden Meadow Road. The BPW offers two $500 bursaries for Georgian College female students, who are studying in non-traditional programs, and the proceeds from this sale will go towards that cause. MONDAY SEPTEMBER 14 The Gilford and District Horticultural Society is having a meeting in the Churchill Community Centre, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature their traditional Auction Night. Bring garden paraphernalia, baked goods, preserves, pretty and cleanly potted plants and some money. SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 19 The Thornton Fire Fighters will be hosting a dance from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. at the Thornton Community Centre. Tickets are $30 per couple and include dancing to DJ Kevin's Music Factory, and a light buffet. Call Neil Webb at 458-0456 for tickets or more information. SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 20 The Sandycove Art Club and the Sandycove Photography Club will be hosting their annual Art and Photography Club Show and Sale from l to 4 p.m. The show will be held at The Wheel, which is located in Sandycove Acres. Admission and parking is free. There will be draws for original art and photography. Refreshment will be available. SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 26 Sunnybrae Elementary School's reunion will take place from 10:30 to 4 p.m. Built and opened in 1959, Sunnybrae celebrates 50 years of educating Innisfil youth. All former students, staff and the community are invited to view photos and reminisce with old friends. Register in advance by visiting http://sun.scdsb.on.ca.
