Photo contest begins
      It's time for The Scope's A Picture Says amateur photo contest. Residents of Innisfil and the surrounding area are encouraged to submit their community-oriented photos until Sept. 30. Each week, the best submitted photos will be featured in The Scope.

Arts and crafts on display at market
      Take a peek at the boutique. During Fridays in August preview the Simcoe County Arts and Crafts Association's boutique at the Springwater Elmvale Farmers' Market, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a sampling of the hand crafted, unique items that will be available during the Simcoe County Quilt, Rug and Craft Fair, which runs from Sept. 18 to 20.

Racecar encourages accessibility
      The world of car racing just got a bit more accessible to people living with disabilities. Several wheelchairbound local residents participated in Project Track Champion at Sunset Speedway Saturday. The event, which is supported by Simcoe Community Services, includes a modified racecar that has been designed to allow people with disabilities to ride in the vehicle.

Grocery stores raise cash to fight cancer
      Foodland and IGA stores across Ontario proved for the sixth summer in a row that together, they are strong in the fight against cancer. Through their annual Communities for a Cure fundraising program, Foodland and IGA raised over $129,100 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Credit union needs community award nominees
      Peoples Credit Union has announced their annual Community Involvement Award, which will total $5,000 this year. The award is usually shared among two or more applicants based in Simcoe and Dufferin County, who meet the eligibility guidelines and are chosen by a committee of the credit union board. The credit union is now seeking applications.

New studio tour will feature Bradford area artists
      Bradford West Gwillimbury's first studio art tour takes place from Sept. 18 to 20. The studios are open Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Septic workshop runs Thursday
      The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority will be hosting a workshop in Innisfil on Thursday August 27 at 7 p.m., at the New Town Hall. The workshop is for people who own a septic system. The Lake Simcoe Septic System Funding Program can provide financial assistance to landowners within 300 metres of the lake, to upgrade or replace their current septic system.
