Schools honoured for environmental efforts

Two Innisfil Catholic schools have been honoured for their environmental commitments.

Holy Cross and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic schools each received silver certificates during an Ontario EcoSchools award ceremony in Barrie recently. The EcoSchools program uses benchmarks and a scoring system to assess environmental performance based on four areas — waste minimization, energy conservation, school ground greening and ecology literacy. In total, 19 schools received certification.

The initiative is an environmental education program designed collaboratively by school boards across the province. The aim is to positively influence students so will apply energy conservation and waste reduction learning to their daily lives.
