Get out and walk your block this April. Two out of five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Volunteers are needed in Alcona, Big Bay Point and Lefroy. For more information, call Andrew at 436-3107.

Good Food Simcoe is non-profit organization bringing the Good Food Box to Innisfil. The box consists of an assortment of fruits and vegetables, much of which is grown locally. The cost is $10 for a small box and $15 for a large box. Orders must be pre-paid in cash and picked-up on the delivery day. They also need volunteers on packing day. The Innisfil Pipes and Drums has openings for new players in tenor, side, base and student roles. Experienced players are welcome. All instruments and uniforms are supplied for free. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Barrie and District is actively recruiting volunteers over 20 years old for an in-school mentoring program in Innisfil. Both men and women are needed. They will be required to volunteer one hour per week during the school day. Many kids will benefit from having fun and spending time with someone, by simply playing a game of checkers, tossing a football, or reading a book together. The Simcoe County Quilters’ Guild will meet at the ANAF Hall, located at 7 George Street in Barrie, at 1 p.m. Orillia area resident Wanda Milankov will host a discussion entitled 'A Quilter Goes to School'.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 28

The Country Christmas Bazaar, Craft and Bake Sale will be held at Trinity United Church on Robert Street in Thornton. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a white elephant table, and guest vendors with knitting, decorative art, books, wreaths, gift baskets and candles. There will be a continental breakfast for $5, with proceeds benefitting a mission and outreach.

The St. James Choir will present a Christmas Cantata at 2230 Victoria Street West in Stroud, beginning at 4 p.m. A pot luck dinner will be served following the event. Residents are asked to brign their own plates, cups and cutlery.

Thee Place For Paws grooming studio will host pet pictures with Santa Claus, with proceeds benefitting the non-profit organization Street Cats Rescue. WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 2

A roast beef supper will be served at Gilford United Church, with servings at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Homemade pies will be available. Adult admission is $13, and children under 12 years old eat for $5. For tickets, call 456- 2006.

FRIDAY DECEMBER 4

St. Peter's Anglican Church, located at 6254 Yonge Street in Churchill, is hosting its third annual free turkey dinner, from 5 to 7 p.m. This dinner, with all the trimmings, is offered to everyone. Come in and enjoy some fellowship and fun. Call Maggie at 456- 7293 for more information.

SATURDAY DECEMBER 5

The Thornton Community Turkey Shoot takes place at 6831 County Road 27, beginning at 10 a.m. Only 12 gauge shotguns will be allowed, at a cost of $3.50 per shot. A food booth will be available. For more information, call Mike at 458-9279.

Lefroy United Church will host its annual Christmas bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tables are available for $25 and $30. They will have a quilt show, raffles, lunch counter, and white elephant penny and bake tables available. For a table rental, call Marilyn Wade at 456-7508. SUNDAY

DECEMBER 6

Christmas in the Village will take place along Robert Street in Thornton. The event starts at 6 p.m., with a visit from Santa planned for 6:15. Count down to the lighting of the trees, music and caroling, with hot chocolate and treats supplied for everyone. Everyone is welcome to attend. St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, located at 56 Hearn Street in Bond Head, will host an all-you-can-eat Christmas turkey dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The menu will include turkey, gravy, stuffing, roasted potatoes, peas, carrots, french cut beans, endive salad, homemade cranberry sauce, rolls, butter, fruit salad with whipping cream, tea and coffee. Tickets are $15 per person, and are available at the door. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Innisfil Community Church will host a free Christmas Eve dinner, beginning at 6 p.m. Each year, the church coordinates efforts to ensure lonely residents have access to a Christmas dinner. The meal will include turkey and all the trimmings. Participants will also receive

gift. Local transportation will be provided, and a candlelight carol sing will take place at 8 p.m. The deadline for reservations is Dec. 15. To reserve a seat, call Marion Boone at 436- 1611.
